Year 1
Hello and welcome to our Year One class page
In Year One, we have a very busy and energetic learning environment that is full of curiosity and excitement! In science, we develop so many skills and deepen our knowledge through topics such as animals and their habitats, materials, plants and flowers and weather. We also explore the past in our wonderful history lessons where we venture back in time to World War 1 and learn all about our heroes from the Great War and how it all started. We continue on our journey back in time and learn all about the great fire of London, the horrible plague of London and the industrial revolution to name just a few of our interesting topics. Indeed, we love to learn about significant people from our past and present as part of our aspirations and diversity themes and so we love learning about Rosa Parks and Neil Armstrong, and acting out our very own peace protests.
In Year One, we love to read which, is further enhanced by our daily phonics lessons which are full of fun and games to develop our all important blending and segmenting skills. All this reading practise obviously pays off as in Year One we continue our journey to becoming fabulous writers using a range of fiction and non fiction books as a stimulus to create our own masterpieces.
We are also developing into magical mathematicians too! Embedding the all important basic skills of number bonds, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division and shape, space and measure.
We learn to be good citizens by embedding our Christian values into all that we do. Indeed, our Year One class is also known as our Year One Family and it is such a joy to be part of.
